Blink and you’ll miss it as Ca Chep, which means carp, on the busy Vo Van Tan Street is a five-storey bookstore but has a humble front which is similar to a normal house.
The bookstore looks more spacious inside thanks to a glass design and some giant wooden bookshelves falling down from the high walls to the ground. Around 20,000 books ranging from children’s works, novels, economic books, business and foreign books are carefully arranged in different shaped shelves.
The ground floor is where customers can find some best-sellers and books by local authors. The first floor is for stationery and souvenirs while the second floor is a colorful area with comfortable chairs for children to enjoy their books.
Browsers, especially foreigners, should head to the fourth floor where they can browse for imported books, dictionaries and posters and translated books by esteemed local writers like Nguyen Huy Thiep, Bao Ninh, Le Luu and late doctor/revolutionary martyr Dang Thuy Tram. Those who wish to have a seat and enjoy their reading or simply admire the city view can pass by the cafeteria on level five. This space is also turned into a venue for meetings and exchanges.
Ca Chep is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. For further information, access the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/cachep.vn or tell: (08) 6290 6951.
