Two officials of the Cat Tien District branch of the Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) were detained Friday for appropriating billions of dong worth of loan payments from borrowers, according to Lam Dong police.
Director of the branch Pham Tien Dung told Tuoi Tre on Friday that police have checked their computers as well as houses and seized some relevant documents.
The two have embezzled a total of VND2.8 billion (roughly US$132,000) worth of lending payments from 11 customers, Dung said.
“They have done so by getting money from the borrowers but not transferred it to the bank,” he elaborated.
Most of the victims are borrowers who pay back their loans before due days.
Police said they are investigating to see if there are any other victims, and the real amount of money appropriated by the two.
