Vietnam’s top flight V-League Hanoi T&T became the champions of Vietnam after a 2-1 win over Dong Tam Long An in the penultimate round Sunday.
Hanoi were the better team and did not have much trouble beating the hosts to win their second V-League title after an earlier triumph in 2010.
They moved up to 37 points from 21 rounds, four points ahead of second-place Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) who also scored a 2-1 win over defending champs Da Nang, with just a round to be played.
Kien Giang remained at the bottom with 14 points but were saved the ignominy of relegation to the First Division after the league organizers announced Thursday that no club would be relegated this year since Xuan Thanh Saigon (XTSG) have decided to quit the league.
Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City-based club made the decision last week after the Vietnam Football Federation’s disciplinary committee docked XTSG four for not doing its best in the 19th round against Kien Giang.
According to the committee, XTSG used many of their young players and lost 3-1 to Kien Giang, considered the weakest team in the league.
