The Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) Province of Kon Tum’s People’s Committee has launched a project to upgrade and build irrigation works, including 62 water reservoirs and 104 dams.
These projects would supply water for local residents, industrial parks and 8,000ha of farmland for the winter-spring rice crop, as well as 13,000ha of coffee.
The project costs more than VND6.7 trillion (US$319 million), which is funded from the state budget, bonds and Official Development Assistance (ODA).

HCM City’s import-export turnover rises
HCM City’s total import-export turnover of goods, excluding crude oil, in the first six months of this year reached US$22,939 million, a year-on-year increase of 11.2 per cent.
According to the city’s Department of Trade and Industry, of the amount, export turnover hit $9,932 million, or 41.9 per cent of the target for the year.
The highest growth was seen in agricultural, forest and aquatic products and rice.

Da Nang acts to prevent tourist harassment
Central Da Nang City’s agencies are conducting an inspection from July 1 to 10 to stop beggars from harassing tourists. The inspection is being carried out at tourist destinations, downtown areas and beaches.
The city will impose severe punishments to people who disguise themselves as beggars and touts, and those who force children and the disabled to work as beggars.
In the first six months of this year, the city punished 215 violators, and sent 35 beggars to the Social Support Centre.
