(VEN) – Despite the declining number of tourists in many provinces and cities across the country in the first half of this year, tourists coming to the central province of Quang Nam still increased by about 10 percent year on year. This once again has proved the enduring attraction of the local tourism sector.
Quang Nam tourism sector is actively preparing for the Quang Nam 2013 Heritage Itinerary Festival which will be held from June 21 – 26 in Hoi An City, My Son Relic Site and in many other localities in the province. This is a big event of Quang Nam Province to mark the 10th anniversary of Convention on protection of intangible cultural heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), heading toward the ASEAN community in 2015. Highlights of Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013 include “Vietnam and ASEAN cultural heritage space” exhibition, the 3rd Vietnam International Choir Competition-Hoi An 2013 and the finals of 3rd “Miss Ethnic Vietnam” contest.
Leaders of Quang Nam’s People Committee said the festival is a chance to share experience among the participating countries, especially those from the ASEAN in preservation and promotion of the world heritages. It is also a good occasion to popularize Vietnam’s tourism development in general and the cultural characteristics of the local tourism sector in particular to international friends.
According to the organization board, as many as 23 domestic provinces and cities and eight ASEAN delegations have registered to take part in the Vietnam and ASEAN cultural heritage space exhibition with the participation of hundreds of artists and artisans from Southeast Asia countries. The 3rd Vietnam International Choir Competition-Hoi An 2013 also draws the participation of 16 art troupes from six countries and territories.
To promote a sustainable development for Quang Nam tourism sector, the Provincial People Committee has drawn up Quang Nam maritime tourism development project in 2013 and 2014, focusing on three beaches of Cua Dai (Hoi An City), Tam Thanh (Tam Ky City) and Ha My (Dien Ban District) with a total capital of over VND10.3 billion. The main target of the project is to strengthen the connection between protection and exploitation of the local beaches and gradually build a public utility system together with selective development of tourism services to attract tourists
With a strategy on sustainable tourism development through many attractive activities in the Quang Nam 2013 Heritage Itinerary Festival and the warm, sincere welcome of the local people, Quang Nam tourism sector is expected to remain an attractive tourism destination on tourism maps of Vietnam and many countries worldwide.
Quang Nam is the place that convenes many natural and cultural heritage sites recognized by UNESCO. Quang Nam Province has three among 17 world heritage sites recognized by the UN organization in Vietnam, namely the Hoi An Ancient Town (1999), the My Son Sanctuary (1999) and the Cham Island World Biosphere Reserve (2009).
The province is also attractive to tourists thanks to its 125 km long coastline, with many beautiful beaches such as Cua Dai and Tam Thanh. It is also home of many traditional craft villages and unique festivals that have been passed for thousands of years.
