Nhan Dan Online – Vietnam has sent a four-member women’s tennis team to compete at the 2013 Fed Cup qualifiers taking place in Kazakhstan from February 4 to 10.
The team includes Huynh Phuong Dai Trang, Nguyen Ai Ngoc Van, Huynh Phi Khanh and Tran Thi Tam Hao, all from Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnamese women compete in Group 2 of the Asia/Oceania Zone along with Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Yemen and Turkmenistan.
On the first day of competition, Vietnam recorded a 3-0 victory over Singapore before succumbing to New Zealand 0-3 in their second game yesterday.
The Fed Cup, launched in 1963, is the most important tournament for national women’s tennis teams worldwide, which is equivalent to the Davis Cup for men. This is the first time Vietnam has fielded a female team to this competition.
